Mental Health Counseling in Seattle
Hello and welcome. My name is Rae, and I provide mental health counseling to individuals ages 18 and up.
Approach to Therapy
The collaboration, creativity, depth and discovery that I have experienced within the therapeutic process is what keeps me energized and driven by working with my clients. I have witnessed remarkable demonstrations of resiliency, change, recovery and healing. There is always something new to discover about our inner resources, or new meaning derived from our life experiences, current and past.
If I should have the opportunity of working with you, part of our work together will include:
- Establishing a compassionate and judgment-free space in which you may feel comfortable and safe enough to explore painful aspects of your past and present experiences--your sense of safety is paramount. In balance that space will also provide times of levity and humor.
- Sessions individualized with your goals and interests in mind; meeting you where you are, establishing where you want to be, and accompanying you on the way to get there.
- Developing awareness of behavior patterns and limiting beliefs which no longer serve you. This may include connecting with the body as a way to reconnect with your creativity, emotional needs and intuition. This will likely include "Parts Work", during which we explore, and ideally integrate the different parts of yourself which serve to manage and protect you (they are there waiting for the Big Reunion!).
- Further defining what is important, necessary, and nurturing for you in life in order to better know yourself.
- Drawing out your already extant strengths to assist in all of the above.
Education and Experience
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with a Master’s Degree in clinical psychology from Argosy University, Seattle. I am also certified as an Advanced Clinical Hypnotherapist by the Wellness Institute. I trained with the Somatic Experiencing Trauma Institute from 2019-2021. Working as a mental health clinician since 2010, I have had the honor to work with diverse populations with respect to cognitive ability, ethnicity, gender identity, religion, sexuality and socioeconomic status. Aside from individual counseling, I have experience working in community mental health as a case manager and counselor for formerly homeless and chronically mentally ill individuals. I have received specialized training in trauma informed care, hypnotherapy, neurophysiology and crisis intervention. I have experience navigating clients through a variety of issues including mood disorders, general anxiety, complex PTSD, intergenerational trauma, psychotic disorders, chemical abuse and dependence, self-harm behaviors, interpersonal difficulties (such as codependency, boundary and trust issues), sexuality and gender exploration, grief and loss, traumatic brain injuries, chronic stress and chronic pain. Before I began my path to become a therapist, I received a BA in theatre from University of Massachusetts and enjoyed a long stint in NY in the theatre world as an actor and writer. Through the theatre community, I gained enrichment in empathy, creativity and collaboration with others; what I consider to be cornerstones of my current work with clients.
